About Tres Hermanas Mountains

The Tres Hermanas Mountains are a small, isolated mountain range located in southwestern New Mexico. Rising abruptly from the surrounding desert, the range features steep, rugged terrain with rocky, jagged peaks. The geology is dominated by igneous and metamorphic rocks, with prominent outcroppings and steep, scree-covered slopes. Elevations range from around 5,500 feet at the base to just over 8,228 feet at the summit of the highest peak, South Tres Hermanas. The range is largely undeveloped, with sparse vegetation consisting of desert scrub, yucca, and juniper at lower elevations, transitioning to piñon-juniper and ponderosa pine forests at higher elevations.
