Tonuco Mountains

The Tonuco Mountains are a small mountain range located in south-central New Mexico. Rising from the desert landscape, the range features rugged, volcanic peaks and steep, rocky terrain. Covered in piñon-juniper and ponderosa pine forests, the Tonucos offer a scenic wilderness experience close to the city of Las Cruces. Hikers and backpackers can explore a network of trails passing through canyons, over ridges, and to scenic viewpoints overlooking the surrounding Chihuahuan Desert.
