The Brakes

The Brakes mountain range is located in western Wyoming, stretching across the southern edge of the state. This rugged and remote range is characterized by steep, rocky slopes, deep canyons, and numerous high peaks. The terrain is predominantly alpine, with vast areas of exposed granite, scree fields, and glacial cirques. Thick conifer forests cover the lower elevations, transitioning to alpine tundra and barren rock near the summits. The climate is cold and dry, with heavy winter snowfall and short, cool summers.
