St. Joe Mountains

The St. Joe Mountains are a rugged, forested mountain range located in northern Idaho. Spanning over 500,000 acres, the range is characterized by steep, glacier-carved peaks, deep canyons, and sprawling alpine meadows. The geology features a mix of granitic and metamorphic rock, with evidence of glacial activity visible throughout. Elevations range from around 3,000 feet in the valley bottoms to over 7,800 feet at the range's highest point. The dense temperate rainforest that covers much of the mountains provides habitat for diverse wildlife, including elk, black bears, and the rare woodland caribou.
