South Moccasin Mountains

The South Moccasin Mountains are a small, rugged mountain range located in central Montana. The range rises abruptly from the surrounding grasslands and rolling hills, with steep, craggy peaks and deep canyons. The terrain is primarily composed of sedimentary and volcanic rock, with evidence of past glaciation. Forested slopes give way to alpine tundra and bare rock at the highest elevations. Wildlife in the range includes bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer, black bear, and a variety of bird species.
