Socorro Mountains

The Socorro Mountains are a small but rugged mountain range located in central New Mexico. Spanning approximately 20 miles in length, the range is characterized by steep, rocky slopes, deep canyons, and scattered pine-oak forests. The geology of the Socorro Mountains is diverse, featuring volcanic rock formations, limestone cliffs, and ancient lava flows. Elevations range from around 5,500 feet in the foothills to the highest point at Strawberry Peak, which reaches 8,978 feet. The range's remote and isolated nature provides a scenic and relatively uncrowded outdoor recreation experience.
